The Baltimore Touchdown Club and the Maryland State Football Coaches Association has announced the roster for Team Maryland, which will compete against Pennsylvania in the 61st Annual BIG 33 All-Star Football Classic, to be played on Saturday, June 16, 2018 in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Team Maryland will consist of 38 players representing numerous high schools throughout Maryland.

This year’s team will be led by quarterbacks Kevin Doyle (St. John’s-DC) and Doc Booner (Quince Orchard). Doyle led St. John’s to a 9-2 record and the championship of the WCAC. This was St. John’s first league championship since 1989. Doyle, ranked as one of the top pro style quarterbacks in the country, has received well over 30 scholarship offers and has committed to play at the University of Arizona under offensive coordinator, Noel Mazzone.

Bonner helped lead Quince Orchard to their second 4A State championship game appearance. In his career, Booner passed for 5,244 yards and 58 Touchdowns. His completion percentage finished in the 63rd percentile. Booner received numerous scholarship offers and has decided to continue playing football at the Air Force Academy in the fall.

Team Maryland’s offensive line will be anchored by an impressive group of big men. This group will feature two players from St. Frances Academy that finished the year ranked No. 3 nationally by USA Today and finished the season at 13-0 and No. 1 in Maryland. The Panthers won the MIAA A Conference that is one of the toughest conferences in the nation. The St. Frances players are Antonio Derry (6-foot-4, 300lbs - Stetson University) and Josh Miller (6-foot-2, 300lbs - Central Florida University). The O-line will also feature Jamie Romo, (6-foot-5”, 285lbs - Naval Academy) of St. Mary’s High School and former McDonogh star Will Knuttson (6-foot-4, 295lbs - Penn State University), now with Riverbend, Pa. At the TE position, Maryland will feature 6-foot-5, 220lbs Donta Anthony, committed to Old Dominion University.

An impressive offensive attack will also feature running backs Julius Chestnut (Archbishop Spalding HS- Sacred Heart University) and Juwon Farri (Northwest HS- Monmouth University). The wide out positions will feature Penn State bound Daniel Geroge (Oxon Hill HS- 6-foot-2, 205lbs), and Uogo Obasi (Milford Mill HS- 6-foot-2, 182lbs) who is headed to the University of Virginia.

On the defensive side of the ball, Maryland has numerous stand out players. The defensive line will be anchored by Dematha’s John Morgan (6-foot-3, 245lbs) who is headed to play at the University of Pittsburgh. In the linebacker core, Maryland will feature “Howard County Player of the Year” Ryan Kearney (6-foot-1”, 220lbs) of Howard High School, who will play at Towson University. The Linebackers will also feature 3-time State Champion Chris Rhodes (5-foot-11”, 202lbs - Wise HS) who is headed to Shepherd University.

In the defensive secondary, Team Maryland will feature two additional St. Frances players, Terrell Smith (5-foot-10, 170lbs - Saint Francis University) and Jahil Brown (6-foot-0, 175lbs - Central Connecticut State). Two additional Wise HS 4A State Champions, Ehizele Akojie (6-foot-2, 195lbs - Army) and Demetri Morsell (6-foot-0 -170lbs - Bowie State) will roam the secondary.

Head Coach Reggie White (Milford Mill HS), who has previously played and coached in the game, feels that Maryland is again the underdog. His staff feels that they are up for the challenge in June. Since re-joining the historical game, Maryland is 1-4. Each year, Maryland has played a competitive game, but has only emerged with one victory.
