Milford Mill’s Reggie White is the BTC Coach of the Week
White receives honor for a third time in three seasons
Few high school football coaches can put together a 12 month stretch as exciting and rewarding as the one currently being experienced by Milford Mill’s Reggie White. White led his Millers all the way to the 3A state title game last fall where they came within an eye lash of claiming the school’s first football state crown. White then went on to coach Team Maryland to a rare victory in the Big 33 Classic against Pennsylvania, last June, and this week, for the third time in as many years, he has been named the Baltimore Touchdown Club Coach of the Week for the third time in as many years. The latest honor comes after White guided the Millers to a thrilling overtime victory over rival Franklin to improve to 7-0 in 2018. “It has been an extremely good year of football,” said White. “Last year’s run at the State Championship was an awesome experience for me as well as the team, school, and community. We are definitely trying to get back and have a more positive result. “The Big 33 game was special. It was a huge honor to be selected as the head coach, and to get that win with a last minute field goal was truly amazing. It’s something special and different when you can represent your state like that. Last week’s game versus Franklin, what a unbelievable game — two rivals in front of a jammed packed house, and to go into overtime, wow. Our kids were very resilient and they grew up on that field Friday night. There were plenty of times where they could have folded, but they instead stood to the challenge and believed in each other. The common thread in this success is the coaches, Milford’s and the Big 33’s staff are amazing, all credit to those guys.” White said his team faced many obstacles in the battle with Franklin, but said the victory came down to the big play ability of his players. “The team and coaches never gave in or gave up,” said White. “They were resilient and continued to make play after play. The coaches didn’t panic and in turn the kids didn’t panic. All I can honestly say is that was an amazing game.” White said the thrill of being honored by the Baltimore Touchdown Club never gets old. “Never, at all, it’s a great honor to be recognized by your peers. I know what the BTC stands for and what it’s all about, so this is truly an honor.” It’s an honor he share with his staff. “My OC and Associate Head Coach Gregg Trogdon, he is my right hand, my ying to his yang. He keeps me grounded and has awesome offensive game plans week in and week out. “Byron Jones in his first year as DC. He is doing an amazing job. His ability to break film down and find little keys to help the defense gain an advantage is second to none. All of my position coaches and staff are: Robert Jackson WR, Greg Hargis OL, Mike Peoples DL, Joe Coates DB, Damon Royster JV Head, Marques Smith JV Assistant, Richard Johnson, Greg Watkins, Ivan Mitchell, and my support staff.” According to White, the biggest strength of the Baltimore Touchdown Club is the work is does for the kids. “The BTC is run by coaches for the kids. It’s really that simple, everything we do is for the Student Athlete. From All-Star Games, Big 33, Combines, recruitment, everything, no ego’s just the kids best interest.”
