Annapolis’ Good-Malloy named BTC Coach of the Week
His Panthers shocked Broadneck with a 40-19 statement
Outside the Annapolis High School football program not many observers expected the Panthers stunning rout of previously third-ranked Broadneck, Friday night. Those on the inside, however, had been building towards that moment for quite some time and found little surprise in Annapolis’ 40-19 statement victory over the Bruins. With the win, the Panthers earned a special honor for their head coach as Nick Good-Malloy has been named the Week 3 Baltimore Touchdown Club Coach of the Week. “We are happy with our recent success but we still have a lot more we want to achieve. Although our win totals have been improving every season we are just as pleased with our high levels of academic success, character development and community involvement,” said Good-Malloy of the growth within the program. After Friday’s win and again on Monday, Good-Malloy pointed to the support and leadership of his school’s administration as a key factor in the success of the football program. “Our school is incredibly lucky to have such an amazing principal in Sue Chittim. She has experienced a ton of coaching success herself in the world of girls lacrosse, so she is very familiar with what it takes to run a successful program. Our AD, Dave Gehrdes is also a huge asset to our success. I would put our coaching staff up against anyone when it comes to loyalty, commitment to our kids and dedication to our program. They are truly elite.” Good-Malloy made clear that he considers his Coach of the Week honor that shares with his assistant coaches, which include Kyle Acker, Kevin Belt, Edric Chiang, Cliff Green, Mike Melton, Bill Phebus, Mike Price, Darnell Ravenell and Kevin Stokes. “The only reason I have any success as a head coach is because of our staff of amazing assistant coaches. I love and appreciate them big time. The award is a nod to the dedication, commitment and hard work of the student-athletes we have the privilege and honor to coach. This award in my mind is simply recognizing the great job our administration, assistant coaches and players do on a daily basis.” The building of the Annapolis program is not just something the Panther staff has built towards, it is something they have verbalized over time. “We have a motto called BRICK by BRICK that is about incremental improvements over time,” said Good-Malloy. “This award represents the seemingly small improvements made over time that add up to larger successes.” Good-Malloy also thanked the Baltimore Touchdown Club for the work it does to better high school football in this region. “The BTC is a first class organization that is all about the student-athletes and coaches it serves. I am thoroughly impressed with the selflessness the leaders of this organization demonstrate season after season. Annapolis football is honored to be a part of such a top notch group.”
