Harris racking up honors at Assumption

Recent Big 33 alum is making Maryland proud at Assumption College

Assumption College freshman football standout Deonte Harris, who played in the 2015 Big 33 Classic for Team Maryland and won VSN’s 2015 Football Offensive Player of the Year honor as a senior Archbishop Curley, has been named a 2nd Team All-American by Don Hansen's Football Gazette, as a return specialist. The same publication had already named Harris a 1st Team All-Region honoree as well as the region's Special Teams Player of the Year. In fact Harris picked up a whole host of honors following his sensations freshman campaign, including 3rd Team All-Region performer as an all-purpose player, Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year, the Worcester Area Football Special Teams Player of the Year and a New England Football Writers All-Star. Harris was also a Northeast-10 1st Team All-Conference performer as a return specialist, a Second Team wide receiver and a member of the league's All-Rookie Team. He was also a one-time Northeast-10 Special Teams Player of the Week and a one-time D2Football.com National Special Teams Player of the Week. Harris finished as Assumption’s leading receiver with 82 receptions as he piled up 824 receiving yards and nine touchdowns for the year. He finished the season second in the league in receptions, fifth in touchdowns, total receiving yards and receiving yards per game at 68.7. In addition, Harris was the league's top kick returner at 28.2 yards per return as he returned two kickoffs for touchdowns and one punt return for a touchdown. His 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was the second-longest return in the Northeast-10 this season.
