Milford Mill’s Reggie White named BTC Coach of the Week

Millers veteran leader earns first honor of 2016 after a 37-20 win over Urbana

Coming off an uncommon losing season, the Milford Mill football teams was determined to get off to a strong start in 2016. Despite a formidable opponent in Frederick County Urbana, the Millers did just that, claiming an impressive 37-20 victory and earning the first Baltimore Touchdown Club Coach of the Week honors of 2016 for their head coach Reggie White. In the contest, Milford Mill’s top receiving threat Ugo Obasi made himself unstoppable, producing more than 100 yards receiving and catching three touchdown passes. Speaking of unstoppable, running back Troy Scott carried the ball 29 times for 232 yards. And, White’s defensive line of Brandon Cooper, J’Quane Harris, Jamaal Howell and Darrien LaBoo, along with linebacker Marcel Allen, were instrumental in the victory. Allen had double-digit tackles and an interception. “Well, it mean’s we are 1-0 and that’s good for the mental thought process for the kids, but it’s over now,” said White of the impact of the victory. “Now, we refocus and get ready for Dundalk. But being honest, it’s much better than being 0-1.” White says his squad made a commitment to the weight room as well as paid closer attention to details as they prepared during the offseason. “We realized that the taste of losing is worse than the taste of winning. Players and coaches are committed to the program. We lost games last year by 1 point, 2 points and 8 points. So, we have to finish and flip them losses into wins.” White, who also won the honor in 2014, discussed what the recognition from his fellow coaches means to him. “This is a huge honor for me. I see these guys all the time at meetings, all-star games, combines and we are a close group,” said White, is very popular among his peers. “It means a great deal to me and my staff because there were several coaches who deserved this honor as well. I'm humbled.” An active member in the BTC, White expanded on the organizations importance to local high school football. “The BTC is a great organization, one of the best in Maryland and one of the best on the east coast. Scott Ripley and Doug Duvall do an outstanding job leading this organization. They work tirelessly to get our kids noticed by colleges. I feel proud to sit on the Board and be a member; it has help me grow as a coach and helped my program. Being around great coaches just helps you improve on your coaching and your program.”
